Oscar Cass-Darweish is an artist, creative coder and web developer with an interest in the struggle for autonomy in our daily interactions with hardware, software and code. Through artworks, projects and workshops their practice demonstrates the value of artistic methods as tools for interrogating and refiguring human-technical relationships.

In this workshop Oscar will introduce his practice and recent work Observe Protocol, a project developed while in residence with Vivid Projects in 2025. After highlighting ways that the present-day internet and mainstream digital platforms are failing us, he will demonstrate potentials for artistic practice to be useful to help navigate such realities and imagine alternatives. Focusing on the value of offline networks, single purpose machines, and open-source DIY methods that can be applied in a variety of interdisciplinary projects. A short practical activity that attendees can use laptops or phones to take part in will take place with an opportunity for reflections from the group.
