Treeline is presented by Salt Road and is an on-going commission exploring process led biomimicry, in which artists are responding to the biotic flow; nature is what we are and mimicking both natural forms and processes could take us to a place of recognising unsustainable behaviour toward the planet.
Funded by ACE and a-n, Treeline brings together artists based in the Black Hole Club (2017), Birmingham Open Media, Salt Road and AirSpace Studios, using analogue and digital media, particularly moving image, drawing, painting, and performance.
The Treeline programme will develop to link Birmingham and the Midlands with Mid-Wales, the Basque Country and Oslo, through the Biophilic City and Green Capital programs. Artists from the Black Hole Club have made work for the exhibition following the a-n artist bursary program visits to Oslo and the Basque Country.
Between 2018 and 2020 UK artists working on Treeline will be joined by artists from Norway and the Basque Country, working with scientists, universities, art organisations and communities in the different countries to create artworks, run seminars events and exhibitions. To articulate the bridge between knowledge and belief, and maybe reconnect people to their own human nature.
